Choosing a Gazebo - Location

Location can play a big role in the type of gazebo one chooses to install.
In fact building codes and land zoning may restrict the type of gazebo particularly if the location is a urban residential area. It is always recommended to check the with the local municipality regarding what restrictions may apply before purchasing a gazebo. The size and placement one has in mind may not be possible. Generally, smaller gazebos built from kits under 100 square feet can be erected anywhere, but likely require 3 or 4 feet clearance to the property line.

In choosing your gazebo design consider the following factors.
1)Will the size and shape be obstructive to the areas usage or to other nearby structures?
2)Is the design compatible with the surrounding landscape?
3)Is the location good for open designs with with many windows and entrances?

Obvious problems with answers to these questions are that an octagonal shaped gazebo intermixed with other rectangular structures may not blend in well. Rectangular gazebos may be too plain when trying to achieve an ornate look such as in a garden. Open design gazebos placed near adjacent buildings may have openings that are obstructed and useless. Gazebos with high peaks may not be the best choice in urban areas as they become and clutter the view. Metal gazebos built from kits are a favorite for installations near a family home in comparison to more bulkier wooden frames. These are some of the factors to consider but there are others that may influence the type of gazebo chosen.

In summary consideration for the the location or placement is a determining factor that should not be overlooked in choosing a gazebo.
